Jamaican Dogwood

Piscidia piscipula Jamaican dogwood

Young growth on Piscidia. The roundish 'hood' shape (at the top of photo) is a bud with young stipules being the most prominent feature (they will fall off as the growth emerges, leaving characteristic stipule scars on branches). On the bottom of the photo is a very young leaf, sheathed in hairs. It will turn green and begin to photosynthesize later. There is a small round axillary bud in the middle.
